Time Lapse Videos of Fruit

Hello!

After yet an other inspiring homework share, about the differences and similiaries between an orange fruit and a lemon fruit, we were wondering about how fruit ripens.  See our discussion below:

Xander- one is sour and one is sweet.
Teagan- Do you mean tart?

Nativ- There's a baby growing on it.
Teagan- It's not a baby, it's just part of the peel.
Ryan- It's probably the part where the stem goes into the orange.

Teagan- I noticed that this is wrinkly and this is wrinkly too.
Gaby- Those two parts are the parts where the stem grows out of.

Xanger- I picked these off and the tree was as tall as you.
Gaby- Were they always that color?
Xander- When I checked on them one time, [the orange] was kind of yellow, and [the lemon] was kind of green.  Once I took some off that were still small and my mom cut them open and they tasted sour.
Patrick- When a lemon is green it's a lime.

Teagan- When a lemon is yellow, it doesn't change it's color, but if no one buys it, it turns bad.
Chloe- My lemons at home turned all brown on the bottom.
Gaby- Do lemons and limes taste the same?
Class- No.

This inspired me to look up a few videos showing the process in which fruit ripen and their decomposition process.  Check out some of the videos we watched together with your child.  The lemon decomposition and the strawberry ripening videos were not ones that I showed in class, but you can enjoy them together.  What did they notice?  What are they still wondering about?

Thanks for taking the time to have great discussions with your children at home!
Love, Gaby
