Poway Library Field Trip

Dear Loving Reading Scientists,

Here are some snapshots from our field trip to the Poway Library.  Enjoy!

Snack Break

Meeting our Tour Guide, Chris

The Circulation Desk is where we can check out our books using the book scanners and our library cards.

The computer is a great resource for doing research.

Reviewing the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction books.

The Reference Desk is where you can go if you need help finding a book or genre.

There are so many books, for all ages, at the library!

We ended our tour with a brief discussion about biographies and how they give information about famous people's lives, and how to find them using the information on the spine of the books.

We were then joined with other families for Story Time.  The class heard various stories about animals and sang and danced.

Our class had some time at the end our trip to do some preliminary research in the library's Biography section.  Friends were asked to find a book about someone from the past who made a change in society to make the present a different place.  Below are a few snapshots of some books friends researched.  What changes do you think they made in society?  How do those changes affect us today?

In the end, we left the library quietly, some friends checked out books, and we ventured outside for lunch.

Here are some memories from the Loving Reading Scientists enjoying the outdoors in a way that we might not get to do on a daily basis.  Running, jumping, rolling, climbing, collecting, chasing, risk taking, and more.  There's only so much a camera can capture!

Love, Gaby

  1. Eli and I looked through the pictures. He says, "I read the George Bush book. I liked it."

  2. Emma liked the George Washington book. She's been to the library before, but it was great for her to be able to get a tour with a librarian who can explain how the library is organized. Plus the Poway library looks like it is well organized for younger children. Thanks.
