Jersey Mikes, Parsley and Lice!

Hello Loving Reading Scientists,

Here is a quick recap of all of our adventures from this week.  Enjoy!

Discussions:

Our class has been excited about two upcoming events that they have decided to honor:  Valentine's Day and the 100th Day of School.  These two days land only a few days apart from each other, so we will be combining the two events into one lovely day.  As you can see, we have been brainstorming what committees we will need to form and delegating which jobs need to be done.  The goal is to celebrate on February 18th, the 100th Day of School!  Stay tuned for Sign Ups on how you can help!

Journal Entry:

This week, friends have been careful about maintaining the health of our friends and decreasing the spread of lice in our community.  I read this book to the class that shared a bit of humor on the topic, as well as some helpful tips on how to address having lice.  In their journals, friends wrote an action plan about what they will do in attempt to keep themselves healthy and lice free.  Come in any time to check them out!

P.E. with Clara

Check out these all-starts practicing their aiming and shooting into the hoops and passing the ball to their partner!  What's the challenge here?  Were they able to meet the goal?  What will they try next time?

Art with Niki:

What color did your child choose?  What elements in their art work helped them make their choice?

Robotics with Clara:

Friends worked on making a map to help them plan what they needed to do to make sure the car knocked over the wooden planks in the desired amount of steps.  This is a great way to document their practice in using trail and error to solve a problem.

Relax and Reading Time:

This week, friends partnered up and the Tip Giver helped their Reader sound out words.  Some of these Readers were really excited to be pushing together the different sounds of the words!  Some Tip Givers are practicing the difference between giving a TIP and giving their partner the ANSWER.  What tips do you give your child while you read together?

Buddies:

Thank you to Ronny's sister, Heather, for being our Family Reader this week.

Gardening with Beth:

This Friday, friends  got a chance to plant turnip seeds in the garden and were able to sample some fresh parsley that they harvested!  What did your child think of this herb?  Here, friends are checking out the compost bin and developing bird and butterfly garden for the upper grades, similar to the ones on our yard!

Thank you to all that you do and for all of your support.
Love, Gaby
