Parties, Paleontologists, City Planning, and MORE!

Good morning!

This week we had TWO birthday celebrations!  Check them out below:

Thank you to Danielle for joining us on this special day!

Our next birthday celebration included a fun science activity creating a gas which inflated birthday balloons for all the children to enjoy!  Thank you to Limor and Ezequiel for joining us in these festivities!

Friends continue to inspire each other in their discoveries outside of the classroom!  Check out this friends' sea shell collection and how he sorted them.  Would you sort them differently?

In another homework share, a friend brought in real fossils from a family friends' excavation!  This got us thinking about different professions that people have when working with special unearthed materials, including: geologists, paleontologists and archaeologists. What did your child notice about these artifacts?  What shapes did they notice?  How was the texture?  What animal do they think they came from?

Speaking of animals, our friend that brought in the snake skin they found in their backyard also brought in a rattle snake's RATTLE that they found!  There's even a little bit of snake left on it!

Thank you to all of the families that worked on their Roman Numeral homework together.  It promoted a great discussion on how to add, starting with the larger number in our brain and adding the smaller number to it, instead of counting starting from one.  (ex:  10+2= [1, 2, 3, 4, 5...10, 11, 12] vs 10+2= 10, 11, 12.)

We also got two learn from two different friends who researched online, looked in the encyclopedia, and asked an expert about what other Roman Numerals were and what they equaled.

This week we met with our Buddies this week and took another walk and talk through the neighborhood.

This week we worked on our City Planning work and created different agreements about what materials to use in different areas of the city.  We also discussed the difference between how to make our work into three dimensional pieces of work instead of two dimensional.  Friends got into different committees to help build these ideas.

My list writing also re-piqued friends' interest in the use of a hyphen.  We checked when it was appropriate to use it and when it would not be clear.

Thanks for stopping by!
Love, Gaby
