Special Birthday Celebration

This week, we were able to celebrate a friend's 6th birthday by singing Happy Birthday with Cha-Cha-Cha's, dancing to "When October Goes," giving special birthday messages, reading aloud an interactive story, and air popping popcorn kernels to enjoy together!

Ask your child to help you make the sounds of the different objects listed below.

Student Led Conference Practice

To help the students prepare for next week's SLC's, I modeled what it could look like to speak about our work found in our portfolios.  Then I invited friends to take turns being the presenter with a partner.  What were some strategies your child to help them feel brave or comfortable in sharing their work?

Journaling

A few of the children were investigating the plants near the lunch tables during lunch time. They then starting discussing if the plant was poison ivy. During their discussion Emmett talked about how he had poison ivy in his backyard and how him and his sister touched it often. Being concerned, Emery replied "Were you okay? Poison Ivy is dangerous." Other children started to join the discussion and then started turning to Rachael for questions about poison ivy.

Rachael then took the opportunity to research poison ivy with the children at their next small group investigation and journaling time. During their small groups, Rachael played a short video that briefly described poison ivy and how to "stay away from 3's". The children were then encouraged to draw and write in their journals about what they were still wondering about or what they learned about poison ivy. The link of the poison ivy video is below:

ST Math

We revisited the Media Arts Lab to practice learning our passwords for each individual ST Math account.  Once friends complete this tutorial, they will be able to start their own individual journeys of helping Jiji "get to the top!"

Cooking Day

This week, I offered the class the opportunity to make "Strawberries and Cream Ghosts."  After modeling how to make the cream and how to safely cut the strawberries, the class was split up into two committees to help prepare the ingredients.

But first, let's give our ghosts some eyes...

What was your child's impression of this sweet treat?  Wish to make your own at home?  Follow this >>>LINK<<< for the recipe!  Have fun and enjoy!

"Indoor Education"

Due to the rain, we had Outdoor Education in the MPR this week.  Here are some of the skills friends practiced together.  Have fun reinforcing these skills at home!

Family Reader

Thank you to Genia for reading with us this week!

Rainy Day

In light of how much it was raining outside, I invited the friends to help make it rain inside...

Starting with a quiet drizzle...

Then a louder sprinkle...

Here comes the rain...

Even some thunder...

But it soon it started to lighten up again...

Then the clouds parted and the sun shone through...

Leaving us with a lovely rainbow!

Love, Gaby
