Measuring, Letter Formation, Sharing Inspirations and MORE!!!

Hello friends and families,

Enjoy reading through the blog with your child to get a little glimpse into what our week looked like!

Rainy Day Adventures

This topsy turvy week brought on some strong rain before unleashing a sweltering heat wave!  Friends enjoyed snack inside, picnic style, and got to dance to some lively music.  What do you all like to do on rainy days to get your energy out?

Art with Niki

Friends studied concentric circles found in nature before making their own!

Nature Studies with Mary

The students went exploring off-campus in the park.  They listened to a honeybee and learned that only females are the workers.  They discovered woodrat nests and noticed that they smelled like maple syrup and we were excited to notice how far they could see from the hill they climbed!

Sharing Inspirations

Friends have been bringing in a variety of beautiful artifacts for our class to be inspired by.  These unique items invite friends to draw their prior knowledge, observations and questions.

Plumeria flowers from Hawaii

Another mini pumpkin with different features from the first pumpkin brought to our class.  Can you identify what aspects are the same and which are unique to each?

A brown bear and bald eagle figurine.  Some friends had prior knowledge about these being iconic symbols to our state and country.  What do you know about the brown bear and bald eagle?

Snake Bones

What shapes do you see?  What do you think happened to this snake?

Rattle Snake Skin

Check out our Discussion Notes for details about how this friend and her family encountered this live creature.  Come in to take a closer look at this specimen when you can!

Hiking Trail Treasures

This friend found what he believes to be a lava rock and a small coconut!  How did it get on that mountain?

Caribbean Musical Instruments

This friend brought instruments modeled after those used in the caribbean islands.  What sounds do they make?  Which instruments do they compare to used in other cultures?  How do you use them?

Social Emotional Studies

This week friends came up with ideas on strategies for cooling down when you are upset or in need to get ready for being around other people.

We also modeled the checking-in process, which friends are getting a lot of practice in when it comes to working out problems with your peers.

4th Grade Learning Buddies

We had our second Meet and Greet with our Buddies and had a chance to make even more connections.

Handwriting Without Tears

This week, Rachael introduced the friends to different tools and materials to help them get more familiar on the proper ways to form their letters.

Units of Measurement

Friends are familiar with measuring things using different tools from our classroom.  This week, they practiced using measuring takes, rulers and yard sticks to measure in centimeters and inches.

ST Math

This week, friends worked in the Media Arts Lab to work independently with Jiji to work through the different puzzles and problem solve their way to the end of the different levels.

Number Sense

Come in to check out our journals and see what friends drew what there are TWO of.

Game Day

I pulled out some new games and puzzles and invited the friends to work together and practice different science, social studies, language, math, and cooperative skills.

Matching Game with different insects, animals and plants

Chutes and Ladders

Letter Bingo

Friends practiced identifying the letter name, shape and sound and filling their Bingo card with four letters in a row.  Want to make your own Letter Bingo game at home?  >>>CLICK HERE<<< and have fun!

Number Train Puzzle

Friends worked together to put the puzzle in order from 1-20.  How did your child work collaboratively with their group to complete this task?

United States of America Puzzle

This was such a big challenge!  Friends from different groups worked together to find each piece of the puzzle, bit by bit.  What strategies helped your child to work through this big job?

Outdoor Education

We met with Coach Curry and Coach Q to practice our skipping, running and galloping skills.  We also played a new game:  Noodle Tag.  If you get tagged, you'll have to do either 5 Jumping Jacks or 5 Squats!  What outdoor games do you all play together at home?

Family Reader

Thank you to Tina, Desmond's mom, for coming in and reading to us!

Scorpion Observations

We ended our week by feeding our scorpion a new morsel.  What do you think will happen while we are away?

Thanks for stopping by!  Be sure to pop into the class this week to see what your child is most excited about!
Love, Gaby
