Game Day, Goodbyes, and MORE!

Hello everyone!

Here's a brief recap of this week's adventures!

This week, the kids are studying an artist named, Matisse, and his style of painting.  The class is practicing to paint with paper, or making layers of colored paper to make a piece of art.

Each student got a chance to use this technique to make a backdrop for their "painting."

The class got an opportunity to work in our school's garden.  They were adding compost to the different planter boxes, housing lots of tasty fruits and veggies!

In P.E., Clara worked with the students on the basic fundamental of passing a ball and catching it when it comes to you.

The next step was working in partnerships of four and pass the ball around to each other.

We looked through our estimations that were made on estimation t-chart and saw that many people thought the jar contained more than 20 seeds.  After seeing what 20 actually looked like, some friends thought that 20 looked like more than what could be inside, so they suggested that there were only 10 seeds.

After seeing what 10 looked like, friends had their chance to change their estimation to a more likely number.

When we counted how many were actually inside, the class was pretty close!

For our Language Activity, friends worked on the -oo and -sh team.   What other words can you come up with?

Here are some examples of the equations friends came up with for Number Talks.

This week, we prepared ourselves to say goodbye to our friend, Joseph.  His family has chosen to give him the gift of time so that he can spend more time at home and do the things he loves the most.  We sang one of our newer songs and Happy Birthday.

We played one of his favorite games, Hang Man--- or how we like to call it:  Save the Man!  This time, instead of him being hanged, we were going to have him walk the plank!  Fortunately, the class figured out the secret message and were able to "save the man!"

We also played a timed Hula-Hoop challenge!  We did not beat the clock the second time around, but the class was ok with that.

During the week, some friends wrote special messages to Joseph to say good bye and were able to present them to him as we went around the class.

Thank

Thank you to Joseph and April for sharing a special treat with us and this special time to say goodbye to our friend.  We will be missing him, but we wish you luck on your journey!

The class ended their week with a fun game of Duck, Duck, Goose! with their 7th Grade Buddies!

Clara also prepared a Game Day and the children used different tools to practice addition, reading, spelling, sentence structures, and social skills.

We we are only a week away from Exhibition Night, the class came up with agreements about what their job would be for the night.  See our list below!

We also listed what our favorite songs and poems were from September to December.  We will be voting on these songs next week and narrowing down our choices!

We also voted on our class name.  We had a secret vote and I filled out a pie chart to document our results.  Even through 3 people were not present to be able to vote, some students noticed that regardless which name they chose, Loving Reading Scientists would still have the most votes in the end, since it's slice of the pie was the largest.

Love, Gaby

  3. Emma enjoyed everything from PE with Clara to gardening. The photo reminded of art class, so she explained to us the Matisse technique from art. And agreed, even the goodbye was nice! Thanks.
