Safety, Sounding out Words and MORE!

Happy Friday!

Here is a snap shot of our brief week.  Enjoy reviewing this with your child and I look forward to reading your comments at the end!

Lego Physics Explorations

We came together to discuss Veteran's Day.  What is a veteran?  What is special about this day?  Why and how do people celebrate it?  Come and check out our Discussion Binder to see what friends had to say.

Thank you Bridget (Sienna's mom) for being our Family Reader this week.

The class continued their efforts to collect, organize and keep track of their food donations for the San Diego Food Bank field trip.

Before our field trip to the Food Bank, the class role played the Safety Agreements that friends generated and remembered from our last trip.  We practiced in and out of car safety, as well as what to do in case a friend gets lost.  Ask your child to review with you how they stay safe on our trips to learn more.

Friends have been spending many days observing our Passion Fruit as it changes shape.  Check out the different inventive spelling strategies for writing adjectives!

This week, the Kindergartners used the final choices of our Story Elements Brainstorm Gallery Walk and compiled a rough draft of the a story, where the main character is a Robot T-Rex who lives in a tree house, and is having to deal with other characters not liking him.  We went around in a circle to share an idea of what could happen next.

This morning, our 7th Grade Buddies came in to help us flesh out each scene of the story by adding details, dialogue, and emotions.

During Relax and Reading time, I have been challenging friends to stick with the same partner each day to practice sounding out words together in their books.  I have seen a lot of excitement and team work in these pairings, giving each other tips and asking for help when they are stuck.

Our Home to School Learning Extensions continues to invite us to practice and learn about the things we love and are most curious about!  Check out our HTSLE Wall!  Come inside to get a closer look. What work was your child inspired by?

Love, Gaby

    1. Yes, the friends had a great memory from the last time that we went to a field trip about what to do in case of an emergency and how to stay safe in a car. Practicing is important!
