Math Pairs, Story Telling, Pudding, and MORE!

Hello friends!

Here is a recap of last week's adventure!

Gardening:

The Hardworking Journalists continue their Equation Exploration and focus on creating subtraction problems in Math Pairs.  They used cuissenaire rods to help check their work.  Come look at their journals to see what equations they came up with!

Thank you to all of the families that have supported their children with bringing their excitement of learning at home into the classroom.  We had more homework shares this week, including one artifacts from a trip to Yosemite, CA.  This helped us learn about an indigenous group of people who are passing on their knowledge of the land and their culture onto the next generation, as the beauty found in nature.

Another share referenced the recent Blood Moon that many people witnessed.  With the use of a telescope one friend and his family was able to take pictures of the eclipse as it occurred and show us how the Earth's shadow affected the color on the moon!

Other shares we have been having that students have been researching at home with their parents are Yoga poses.  After finding out the name and position of the yoga pose friends learned, then the rest of class tries it out!

The Bridge

The Candlestick Pose

The Cobra pose

We reconnected with our Buddies this week after two weeks, so friends had lots to catch up about!  We took a brief walk to our neighborhood park and chatted at the amphitheater.  You can check their Reflection Notes in our Discussion Binder for more information about how things went!

This week, we also had a guest speaker, Limor (Michael's mom) come to talk to us about the work that she does as a puppeteer.  She shared with us he own, handmade characters, her costumes, and props that she uses to help bring her characters to life!  By teaching us techniques on how to manipulate the puppets, how to give each character a different voice, and how to present the character in a way that the audience's attention is no longer on you, but only on the puppet, we were able to help tell the story of a cunning little mouse and how he evaded getting eaten by the great, big, Gruffalo!

Thank you so much to Limor for sharing her passion with us and pulling the students into the world of make-believe and story telling!

We ended the week with another Cooking/Taste Test day.  The friends used different dry and wet ingredients to make chocolate pudding--- with a twist!

The pudding mix itself was all dairy free and gluten free, but the toppings for the pudding (Oreo's and graham crackers) were not, so we had two separate batches.

In honor of it being Spring time and our recent visit to a garden, I let the friends know that they had made the perfect muddy-like treat for my special friends that I had gathered over night in my hunting bucket... I had gathered the juiciest worms I could find, and they just looooove to be in mud!

The friends were happy to find out we were not going to eat REAL worms!

And so I passed out some worms, with a scoop of mud (pudding and crushed Oreo's) and a spoonful of sand (crushed graham crackers) and the friends dug in with their shovels (spoons) to unearth the wriggly treats.

Have a happy weekend!
Love, Gaby
