Large Motor and Fine Motor Skills Practice and MORE!!

Hello friends,

Enjoy going over these memories with your family so that they can learn all about what you did at school!

Fine Motor Skill Practice with Allyson

This week, Allyson came to our class to help us practice the names of all our fingers, building our muscles in our hands, and working on our pencil grip.  You might ask your child if they can remember any of the songs we sang to help us remember what we learned...

Putty Letters

Friends worked with different resistance levels of putty to roll out lines to make letter shapes.  This was a little tricky for some as the putty was pretty sticky and stuck to your hand if your didn't work fast!

Hand Writing

After tracing their hands, friends worked on labeling their illustration by writing the names of each digit above it's shape.  Allyson helped them write from TOP to BOTTOM and forming each letter in the most efficient way.

Smiley Smiling Face

Friends worked carefully to remove stickers from a sheet to apply in numerical order onto a Smiling Face picture, going from left to right around the shape.

Color By Letter Page

Friends colored in an activity sheet that had letter labeled sections designated for certain colors.  Friends practiced their pencil grasp in this activity as well as staying in the lines.

Sewing

I introduced new materials to the class: thread and needle.  After reviewing safety agreements, friends were invited to use these tools and get a feel for moving the needle back and forth through the paper.

Finger Crochet

Clara helped friends practice Finger Crochet. As we keep building our fine motor skills, this concentrated activity will come to each person at their own pace.  Those who have got the pattern down are happy to teach other friends how to make a long chain using this technique.

Drama with Natasha

Ask your child what new songs and games they are learning during this time.  What part did they practice in the Anansi story?

Robotics with Clara

Friends are being introduced the concept of measuring distance in different units and angles.  How exciting!

Thank you to Betsy for being our Family Reader!

Gardening with Our 7th Grade Buddies

This week, our friends help pull weeds in our school's garden.  There were so many and friends were trying to make their pile as high as they could go!  And check out our new rain water collection tank.  Can you guess how many gallons it can hold?

Skip Counting

We have been practicing skip counting in class and we went outside to the upper yard to use the 100 Number Chart.  What numbers do you like to count by?

Love, Gaby

  1. Emma came home talking about the Allyson's "If you want to start a letter at the top" song. It's great that she can get additional pointers and more time to develop her pengrip. She also liked acting out and singing the song for the Anansi story. The sewing and crocheting looked fun, too! Thanks, again!

  2. Eli has been talking about the Anansi play and hoping that I will be coming to see it. He also told me that he has 2 jumping letters in his name. There is SO much learning going on in that classroom and outside!
