Large Motor Math, Comparing Literature, Interviews, and MORE!

Happy Friday everyone!

This week, we have been working very hard on preparing for Exhibition Night and making sure all of our work is ready to present.   We have also been recording our News Show to share what we have been doing throughout the week.  With that said, I will not be sharing with you all of the details of what has been happening in class this week--- I'll give you just a taste of what will not be highlighted in our News Show!  You'll just have to come to Exhibition Night to find out more information!

We played our Large Motor Math Game again this week.  Friends practiced coming up with simple math equations and checking for the sum by counting how many bodies are in the "center."  Friends enjoyed calling out their guess after they worked it out on their fingers or in their mind.

The class was excited to have finished painting the ocean on our world map.  Friends helped mix the paint for the land areas that are covered in mountains.

This week, we interviewed our newest friend in our class.  We had fun playing the Name Puzzle game again and giving our interviewee the chance to unscramble his name to be in the right order.

We also revisited what an interview looked like, as well as identifying what Open Ended Questions were, what Follow Up Questions were, and we practiced the order of one person asking a questions, and then one person gives a response--- before the next question is asked!  We learned a lot about our friend, so come and check out his interview when you can!

This week, we also completed another Story Study for the Princess and the Pea.  After reflecting on the different story elements for both of the books, we compared and contrasted the two tales, using a Venn Diagram.

Those are all the snapshots that I am willing to share with you this week.  The class has taken on the job of sharing the rest, so be sure to come and hear all about it on Exhibition Night!  If you have not signed your child up to be a Host for the night, make sure you do that ASAP!

We also still have spots available for you to volunteer to help if you have the time!  We'd love to have you join us at our Food Sampling Table or our Video Recording Station!

And lastly, thank you to everyone who has signed up to bring a dish to share where their family is from!  We can't wait to try it and learn from you!

Next week, our school will be hosting a Book Fair.  You can come to check it out in the Multipurpose Room in the mornings before 9am, and after school.  We will tour the Book Fair as a class on Wednesday.  Students will be provided with a WishList form to fill out and share with you.  If your family comes to an agreement about the books, then you can purchase them at any of the available times--- even at Exhibition Night! You will also find a basket with a class WishList if you would like to gift any of the books for our classroom library =]

Also, please be sure to come in next week to sign up to be a chaperon/driver for our next field trip!  Students will be putting out sign-ups!

I would like to end this post with my appreciation to you all for coming in to chat with me during our Parent Teacher Conferences this week.  I consider one-on-one connections and communication to be so valuable (and fun!).  Please remember that my door is always open, so feel free to shoot me an email if you would like to check in, or grab me in the mornings to request time to meet in the afternoon.  Let's keep checking in and celebrating your child's growth!

Thank you for all that you do for our community!
Love, Gaby
