Different Perspectives, Clubs, and the Helen Woodward Animal Center

Good evening, all!

We have been so many beautiful discussions in our class, it blows my mind how this extraordinary group of individuals are able to express their ideas!  One of our discussions was inspired by Salem's painting, which she brought to Revisiting Meeting, of a haunted mansion.  It generated quite a buzz because some friends saw a structure supported by four white pillars, while others saw the same structure, but supported by three black pillars!  We were amazed at how even though everyone was looking at the same work of art, we happened to have different perspectives about what was being represented!  I then looked up more images that would trigger this difference in perspectives.  Friends took a quiet moment to analyze each image and share quietly with a partner what it was that they saw.  Some of us saw one image, others saw something different, and a couple of us saw multiple images!  But each perspective was different!  What do you see?

In other news, last week was the first Friday of the last session of Clubs.  We have a couple of new options and new teachers that we are getting to work with!  There is Teamwork with me, Art/Music with Jennifer from 1st grade, Spanish with Lois from 2nd grade,  and Games with Crysta, our afternoon Support Staff.  We have been talking about what qualities we hope to show these different teachers when we visit their Clubs.  We agree that we want them to see Listening Bodies and Kind Friends (since the word "kind" is found in "Kindergarten")!

A BIG thank you to everyone who helped out in our most recent field trip to the Helen Woodward Animal Center!  We received a lovely tour "around the world," visiting various habitats and learning about their native animals, adaptations, defenses, and diets.

We braved the cold of the snowy mountains and learned about the guinea pig; marched through the leafy rainforests and observed a hissing cockroach; sweated in the scorching heat of the deserts where we were face to face with a snake; and in finally cooled off in beautiful southern California, where we learned about doves!

Have a great day! Love, Gaby
