Great discussions and Upcoming Events!

Hello Loving Kinder Gardeners!

Today was such an exciting day and I am glad to have spent it with you!  You all have such amazing ideas, I love hearing them!

Matthew inspired our morning discussion by stating that he "broke his leg" over the home days.  We stopped to notice that Matthew's leg seemed fine and it could not be broken or else it would be in a cast.  Many friends have personal life experience dealing with casts and understand that they are used to help mend broken bones.  Matthew soon accepted that he did not really break his leg, but he did hurt it.

We also noted that casts were not the only things that people could use if they broke their bones.  The severity of injuries vary, and friends recognized that sometimes, limbs had to be removed after they were hurt in an accident.  Many friends knew about prosthetic legs and arms which people sometimes use after their limbs are amputated.  This topic generated a few burning questions for us to think about...

What are prosthetic limbs made of?
How do they work?
Are they robotic?
Does it hurt to use them?

In our afternoon, we had a Look, Listen, and Learn video time.  The first video we watched explained how prosthetic limbs were made and function.

The next video tells the story of how a prosthetic limbs can even help animals live long and fulfilling lives!

In other news, Innovations Academy will be participating in the 13th Annual SRCA COMMUNITY FAIR and ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL!  It will be held this Sunday, May 6, 2012, from 12:00-5:30p.m. at the Scripps Ranch Community Park on 11454 Blue Cypress Drive.

We will have a booth set up where various activities will be available for friends and families to enjoy!
Our theme is RE-USEABLE ART:  making art out of PAPER you might normally throw away!  If you have any newspapers, magazines, phone books, etc you'd be able to contribute, OR would like to work on this at home and bring it to share as a model for our booth, please bring it in to our class!

CHEK OUT THEIR WEBSITE for more information!  And if you'd like to help out in any way, please contact our director, Christine Kuglen at christine@innovationsacademy.org.  She'd love to hear from you!

Lastly, our second Student Led Conferences will be held next week.  Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be HALF DAYS.  There will be a Sign-Up sheet inside the classroom, so be sure to pop in before or after school this week to get your date and time.

Just like in the beginning of the year, the Student Led Conference is a time for your child to show off what they have been most excited about, have them set goals, hear goals you have for your child, and hear what goals I have for them too!  It's really a nice time for your child to share with you what great school people they have become and how they have been able to use multiple modalities to express their thoughts and ideas!

I can't wait!
Love, Gaby
